Gmail Herald is an alternative Gmail Notifier for Windows and potentially other systems due to its being a Qt project. It is fast, intuitive helper for those who have Gmail accounts and wants to be notified on new email arrival.

Gmail Herald resides in the system tray and checks the given Gmail account for the new mail. Gmail Herald uses the Atom feed for unread mail detection with a minimal bandwidth. When a new mail detected, application plays sound, the tray icon changes to red flickering, and the notification window appears on the screen. In case of multiple mails, they shown one after another. You can iterate over the messages in notification window and mark them as read by pressing the corresponding button.

    Requirements

    Gmail Herald can be easily downloaded and installed on all Windows OS flavours with double clicking on installation package file. Installation package contains all necessary binaries, and there is no additional requirements for the user.

    If you want to use "Mark as read" functionality, you will need to enable IMAP access for your Gmail account.

    You can easily change the credentials in this window. Credentials can be saved as an encrypted string for automatic login during the next sessions.
