Gmail Herald is an alternative Gmail Notifier for Windows and potentially other systems due to its being a Qt project. It is fast, intuitive helper for those who have Gmail accounts and wants to be notified on new email arrival.

Gmail Herald resides in the system tray and checks the given Gmail account for the new mail. Gmail Herald uses the Atom feed for unread mail detection with a minimal bandwidth. When a new mail detected, application plays sound, the tray icon changes to red flickering, and the notification window appears on the screen. In case of multiple mails, they shown one after another.

Gmail Herald is an open source project and therefore all sources are avialable and can be distributed under GPL license.

Get and display time, senders, subject and text summary of messages in the notification window.

Move notification window to any position on the screen. This position will be saved between sessions.

Notification window stays opened under mouse and smoothly disappears otherwise.

Since Gmail Herald is an open source project, you can download the latest source files too.

Gmail Herald can be easily downloaded and installed on the most of 32 bit Windows OS flavours with double clicking on installation package file. Installation package contains all necessary binaries for Win32, and there is no additional requirements for the user.

Alternatively, you can build the application on other platforms using project sourses. Please note that you will need appropriate Qt libs for that platform.

Gmail Herald will open in your system tray enabling you to access the application's options.

You can easily change the credentials in this window. Credentials can be saved as an encripted string for the next sessions.

The Options window will allow you to set the timeout value, define the sound file and set the user interface language. You can also instruct the application to run on system startup.

Notification window contains the information about the latest application status.
